Quentin Tarantino Calls The Lone Ranger One of 2013’s Best MoviesThe Lone Ranger was a substantial bomb, and one of Disney’s biggest financial disasters, released this past summer and starring Johnny Depp as Tonto. As it makes its way to Blu-ray on December 17, its getting a little extra publicity push thanks to acclaimed director Quentin Tarantino, who has called the movie one of 2013’s best. (Now you want to watch it, huh?)Quentin plans to publish a list of his top ten 2013 films via The Quentin Tarantino Archives at the end of the year. In honor of the Government Shutdown, he has decided to get a jump start on the list, publishing his top ten for the year thus far. The movies are listed in alphabetical order, not by which one he likes the best. And as we have three more months to go, and tons of Oscar bait to get through, this list could drastically change come January 1.Take a look at the director’s Top Ten of 2013 so far…1Afternoon Delight It’s nine am. You’ve just dropped your kid off at school. Pick-up is at four. No one knows where you are, and no one needs you. So what now? Rachel is a quick-witted and lovable, yet tightly coiled, thirty-something steeped in the creative class of Los Angeles’s bohemian, affluent Silver Lake neighborhood. Everything looks just right-chic modernist home, successful husband, adorable child and hipster wardrobe. But when she visits a strip club to spice up her marriage and gets a private dance from McKenna, something cracks open. Rachel returns to the scene of the dance to get to know McKenna, and soon after, adopt her as a live-in nanny. This bold move unleashes unimagined and colorful waves of change into Rachel’s life, marriage and community.2Before Midnight We meet Celine and Jesse nine years after their last rendezvous. Almost two decades have passed since their first encounter on a train bound for Vienna, and we now find them in their early forties in Greece. Before the clock strikes midnight, we will again become part of their story.3Blue Jasmine After everything in her life falls to pieces, including her marriage to wealthy businessman Hal, elegant New York socialite Jasmine moves into her sister Ginger’s modest apartment in San Francisco to try to pull herself back together again.4The Conjuring Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. The Conjuring tells the true story of Ed and Lorraine Warren, world renowned paranormal investigators, who were called to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most horrifying case of their lives.5Drinking Buddies Kate and Luke work together at a craft brewery. They have one of those friendships that feels like it could be something more. But Kate is with Chris, and Luke is with Jill. And Jill wants to know if Luke is ready to talk about marriage. The answer to that question becomes crystal clear when Luke and Kate unexpectedly find themselves alone for a weekend.6Frances Ha Frances lives in New York, but she doesn’t really have an apartment. Frances is an apprentice for a dance company, but she’s not really a dancer. Frances has a best friend named Sophie, but they aren’t really speaking anymore. Frances throws herself headlong into her dreams, even as their possible reality dwindles. Frances wants so much more than she has, but lives her life with unaccountable joy and lightness.7Gravity Dr. Ryan Stone is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky. But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone-tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.8Kick-Ass 2 Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit. After Kick-Ass’ insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes, our hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist, reborn as The Mother Fucker, only the blade-wielding Hit Girl can prevent their annihilation.9The Lone Ranger A thrilling adventure infused with action and humor, in which the famed masked hero is brought to life through new eyes. Native American spirit warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice-taking the audience on a runaway train of epic surprises and humorous friction as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.10This Is the End Follows six friends trapped in a house after a series of strange and catastrophic events devastate Los Angeles. As the world unravels outside, dwindling supplies and cabin fever threaten to tear apart the friendships inside. Eventually, they are forced to leave the house, facing their fate and the true meaning of friendship and redemption. What do you think of his choices? Is the man crazy? Or does he know good cinema when he sees it?The Lone Ranger was released July 3rd, 2013 and stars Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Armie Hammer, William Fichtner, Tom Wilkinson, Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale, James Frain. The film is directed by Gore Verbinski.
